Another Alaska band captures NAMMY award

Alaska Magazine - November 2006

Another Alaska band can claim a NAMMY as its own after the group Medicine Dream was awarded a Native American Music Award for the video of its uplifting song "In This World".

The video, a montage of scenes from across Alaska and concert clips of the band in Alaska and the Lower 48, won the award for the best short or long form video at the eighth annual Native American Music Awards ceremony, held in June in Hollywood, Florida.

Medicine Dream joins the Anchorage band Pamyua as a Nammy winner. Pamyua won a record of the year Nammy in 2003 for "Caught in the Act." Medicine Dream shared a Nammy award in 2002 as part of a best comilation reording.

" That was really awsome - just disbelief," band leader Paul Pike told the Anchorage Daily News about the industry and your peers. Being in Alaska, we can feel a bit isolated at times. Being part of a national award like this makes us feel like we've connected with people."
